Start for the Heart was created in the Summer of 2007 and is a nonprofit organization designed help fund medical services to underprivileged children with heart disease in North Carolina through an annual fitness competition. This year, we'll be donating all of our proceeds to North Carolina Children's Heart Center at UNC Hospitals. All money raised goes directly to providing healthcare for children with heart disease in North Carolina. By alleviating the financial burden for patients, Start for the Heart will improve healthcare access and reduce health disparities for children of all ages, races, ethnicities, and religions.

The North Carolina Children’s Heart Center is the largest children’s heart program in North Carolina and one of the most comprehensive pediatric cardiovascular programs in the United States.
The center is affiliated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and is based at the North Carolina Children’s Hospital on the UNC campus. Each year the center performs and interprets over 15,000 non-invasive procedures and conducts over 7,000 pediatric cardiology outpatient visits.
